Project Outline

The primary aim of the Do It Together project is to build families confidence and self-esteem enabling them to learn with their children and link families together.

Through creative activities they can learn new skills in a non-threatening environment, with the future aim to encourage the parents to go on to further training. It will also provide ideas for extending creative play at home.

Participants

The main age group of the children is 4-16 however we are aware that when working with families there may be younger children involved and we can either arrange crèches or suitable activities for them to feel happy while older ones explore more challenging ideas.

There are some specific groups we need to engage I.e. Dads, grandparents, hard to reach communities, rural areas, travellers, young carers and areas with a high BME density.

Workshops

All the sessions will be practical and hands on for parents and children to participate fully using re-cycled industrial waste as its main source of learning materials.

Workshops will include arts and crafts activities, science and creative Play opportunities for outdoor and indoor play.

Ideas for workshop session are:

Beastly bugs from scrap

Playing with food,

Harnessing the wind (kites, wind socks, wind chimes)

Fairy Tale wonderland (costumes, castles, etc)

Under the sea from scrap materials.

Rockets and Balloons

Den building

Games from scrap

Go kart making

(This list could be endless!)

Each session is about 2hrs long

Where, when?

We can run these wherever we feel there would be a group or a need for the sessions. Family centres, Schools, community rooms etc.

After school hours, weekends or school holiday would be the best time to enable the children to attend.

We need the support of other organisations to help provide community venues and promote to their families.

Wed can provide flyers, Tutors and all materials needed for the session. The sessions are free to families attending.
